Inaugural UK Space Environments Conference

Aberdeen will play host to the inaugural UK Space Environments Conference on 16 and 17 June 2012. Leading UK and international researchers from the fields of space biomedicine, astrobiology, astrophysics and astrochemistry will present and discuss details of their work and plans for a UK future in space.

Dr Jeff Davis, NASA's Director of Space Life Science and Medical Operations will present on the topic of collaboration for space and terrestrial benefit and provide an opportunity for delegates to discuss human space flight topics with one of the world's leading experts in this field.  There will also be presentations from the likes of Maj Tim Peake, the UK's representative ESA Astronaut and Prof Charles Cockell, one of the UK's leading astrobiologists.

3rd European Space Tourism Conference:Open for Business

On the 19th June 2012, the 3rd European Space Tourism Conference:Open for Business will be held by the Royal Aeronautical Society, London.

Space tourism is now big business. Tens of millions of dollars have been paid by customers, queuing up to spend time in space. Space Adventures has been operating for over a decade, XCOR and Excalibur Almaz are rolling out their vehicles, and Virgin Galactic is in the final stages of certification in the US – the top management of all four will be here, as well as passengers from the first three.

Spaceport America has opened in New Mexico, Spaceport Sweden hopes to be the first to do so in Europe while Curaçao will offer a Caribbean base – the top management of all three will be at the conference as will the lawyer helping Spaceport Sweden negotiate the regulatory corridors in Brussels.

This conference will provide delegates with up to date information concerning 'New Space', networking opportunities and the forum for discussion on hot industry topics.

UKSEDS 2012 Annual Conference

This year’s UKSEDS conference will be held at the University of Kent on the weekend of the 31st March – 1st April, and will be hosted by their Kent branch: SpaceSoc.

Mars field simulation, Morocco 2013, First Announcement

The Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) will be conducting a 1-month Mars Analog Simulation in the northern Sahara in February 2013 in cooperation with the Ibn-Battuta Center at the Univ. of Marrakesh, Morocco. The First Announcement for international participation for this field mission has been published and a more detailed AO (Announcement of Opportunity) will be released by the end of March.

Submissions will be considered for experiments to be conducted on-site or tele-operated from a home institution or the Mission Support Center in Austria.

Cornell University of Hawaii Mars Analogue Mission and Food Study

Applications for participation in a 120 day Mars exploration analogue mission (Hawaii Space Exploration Analogue & Simulation, or HI-SEAS), are being accepted. The mission takes place in early 2013 on the Big Island of Hawaii.
